Maureen Baker was born close to Warakurna community, on a tract of land between what is now the Giles weather station and the Warakurna roadhouse. She has family connections to country in Tjukurla, Western Australia and Kanpi in South Australia where she lived with her husband for many years and painted at Tjungu Palya art centre. In 2018, Maureen returned to her own country and now resides with family in Warakurna. Maureen paints her grandmother's country of Tjukurla. Her approach to painting is bold and vibrant and offers a contemporary interpretation of this Tjukurrpa, invigorating and inspiring younger generations. In addition to painting, Maureen is an invaluable staff member at Warakurna Artists and assists in cultural consultation and administration.
